After the end of the devastating Second World War and the first years of reconstruction, which were at times very arduous, the Hanover Fair in 1949 represented a completely new beginning for the truck division of Daimler-Benz AG. The Stuttgart-based company presented the first completely new design in the commercial vehicle business after 1945 in the form of the L3250. Renamed the Mercedes-Benz L3500 just one year later due to a payload increase to 3.5 tons, the classic long-hauled truck, together with the L4500, became the best-selling truck in the burgeoning German economic miracle. Renamed the Mercedes-Benz L311 in 1955, a total of 51,687 examples of the L3500 were produced between 1949 and 1961. Manufactured throughout its production period without any significant technical changes, the L311/L3500 was surpassed only by its more powerful brother, the L312, of which more than 64,500 units were produced at Daimler-Benz's Mannheim plant in the years 1953 bi 1961. The L3500 metal model in 1:18 scale has numerous loving details and several functions, such as opening cab doors and a working steering.
