From 1955 onwards it was an important task to equip the new German army with reliable 5-ton trucks. Following a very comprehensive tendering process, MAN and Mercedes-Benz emerged as the winners. From mid-1958 the Daimler-Benz 315 was exclusively produced with the standard driver’s cab and a folding soft top. The long-bonnet vehicle was powered by a 6-cylinder multifuel engine with a capacity of 8276 ccm and output of 145 BHP. Its unladen weight was a respectable 7.7 tons. A few of the LG 315s were also used as TLF 2400 tank fire-fighting vehicles at German military airports.
